The Star Download Award Issue 86 of PCPilot

In this issue we feature a beautifully designed De Havilland DH80 aircraft from the prolific Milton Shupe, who has kindly provided this aircraft to the Ford Project to help advertise their work.

The Ford Project commenced early in 2010, founded by Edward Moore, who it seems is dedicated to the 1920-30 era of Aircraft & Scenery design.
Garry Smith, one of the most notable texture designers in the world was recruited to help with the  artwork. The results of this will be plain to see when you install the aircraft. The Project is positively exploding with growth, with sub projects depicting Support Aircraft and Era Specific Adventure Scenery being added on a regular basis. I understand the team have many exciting things planned for the future.

The package here has 75 included textures, but there are over 40 extra liveries on the Ford Project website (DH80A page) for you to download
(from the address below).

http://www.ford-tri-motor.net
or a direct link to the DH80A
http://www.ford-tri-motor.net/de-havilland_80a.htm

Now we come to the subject of this article, Milton and Garry’s superb rendition of the DH80; which is an outstanding piece of work. Although an FS9 (2004) aircraft, the modelling is up there with the best of current FSX designs. The fuselage and external fittings are both accurate and in proportion to the aircraft itself, and if you have the keystroke setup, the wings will fold for storage. The Virtual cockpit is somewhat Spartan, but that simply reflects the original aircraft which is the same. Considering the aircraft I normally fly, the DH80 certainly takes you back to the roots of flying. Then the old acronym of VFR certainly takes on a different meaning.

With a stall speed of 40 knots, the DH80 is a fairly docile craft and ideal for new pilots. Although I found it needs some coaxing to get airborne, personally however I feel that simply adds to it’s charm.

As I’ve already mentioned the package includes a veritable art gallery of paint jobs, including (as you’ll see) our very own PC Pilot livery; all designed by Garry Smith.

A Superb package that I’m sure you’ll enjoy flying.
